The new book ‘Regülasyon Hukuku’ (‘Regulatory Law’), written by BASEAK Partner Şahin Ardıyok, presents the historical evolution of regulatory law, examines current market challenges and proposes solutions drawing on extensive examples from Turkey and around the world.

Regulatory institutions have risen to prominence in Turkey since 1980, when the country began its journey towards the free market model. They gained even more importance at the time of the privatizations following the 2001 crisis. The changing regulatory framework has had an impact on every law practice in the country.

As both a practicing lawyer and a university lecturer, Şahin Ardıyok has been observing this trend with great interest over the last 20 years. He presents his observations and comprehensive response in his book.

A unique feature of the book is the deep analysis of the Chicago School theory of economic regulation, which forms the basis of many of these regulations and actually deregulation practices in various markets. The theory was developed by Prof. Sam Peltzman, one of the leading figures in the field of regulation at the Booth School of Business, University of Chicago, and Ardıyok’s former professor.
Şahin Ardıyok is the Head of Public Policy, Regulation and Competition at Balcıoğlu Selçuk Akman Keki Attorney Partnership (BASEAK).

He has lectured on economic regulation and law, telecommunications, energy and pharmaceutical law at Bilkent University, Bilgi University and Kadir Has University in Istanbul and İstanbul.
