On May 8, 2025, Partner Şahin Ardıyok and Senior Associate Armanç Canbeyli took the stage at the 20th Applied Competition Law Seminars, hosted by Istanbul Bilgi University, as part of the regular events organized by the Centre for Competition Law and Policy.

In their presentation titled “Liability of Undertakings for Employees’ Actions under Competition Law: Where Should the Line Be Drawn? – A Legal-Economic Perspective”, the speakers tackled a critical and timely question: To what extent should companies be held accountable for competition law breaches triggered by individual employee conduct?

Bringing together legal and economic insights, Ardıyok and Canbeyli explored the contrast between Turkish enforcement practices and international standards, highlighting key differences in how liability is attributed across jurisdictions.

They also shed light on the impact of competition-law compliance programs, discussing whether their presence—or absence—should influence the assessment of infringements. Importantly, they outlined criteria for distinguishing between undertakings that take genuine preventive steps and those that fall short, offering a roadmap for responsible corporate behavior in today’s evolving antitrust landscape.
