Balcıoğlu Selçuk Akman Keki Attorney Partnership continues to support Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition (“Jessup”) as partner Dogan Eymirlioglu (previously national administrator and judge for the competition) served as a judge in the final round of Turkish national rounds, held in Bahçeşehir University on the 10th and 11th of February 2018.
Jessup is the world's largest moot court competition, with participants from 645 law schools in 95 countries this year. It is a simulation of a fictional dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice, the judicial organ of the United Nations. 2018 is the 59th year of the competition, where teams prepare oral and written pleadings arguing both the applicant and respondent positions of the case.
Thousands of law students from around the world work all year long on the season's Jessup Problem, which for 2018 addresses interstate arbitral awards’ validity, marine vessel capture, breach of nuclear disarmament obligations and naval warfare. Most students must first compete in national qualifying competitions to earn the right to advance to the International Rounds held every spring in Washington, D.C.
