On 1 September 2015, BASEAK Partner Mark D. Skilling, head of BASEAK’s International Arbitration practice, gave a presentation in Ankara, Turkey to members of the Turkish Contractors Association. The subject of his presentation was the dispute resolution options of Turkish construction companies related to their Libyan construction projects, some of which suffered tremendous damage both during and after the outbreak of anti-Gaddafi hostilities in early 2011. It is estimated that some 100 Turkish construction companies suffered damages in excess of US$2.5 billion related to their Libyan projects.

Skilling focused primarily on the investment arbitration option, given the existence of two investment treaties with Turkey in which Libya promised to provide certain protections to Turkish companies and individuals investing in Libya.  

The audience of approximately 40 guests included senior executives and counsel from approximately 16 leading Turkish construction companies. The presentation was followed by a Q&A session.
