Fundamental changes have been made recently to Turkey’s Administrative Procedure Act. Of particular note is that “summary” – i.e. abbreviated – proceedings have been introduced to accelerate certain administrative actions. Now, according to the Environment Code, Act No. 2872, challenges to Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) reports will be considered in summary proceedings. Read more

BASEAK team, led by Partner Özgür Akman, successfully advised and represented China North Industries Corporation (Norinco) in the course of conducting settlement negotiations with ISKI (Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration) regarding a litigation dispute pending between the parties since 1998. In addition, BASEAK team successfully represented Norinco in reaching the settlement on the litigation file and upon the completion of the settlement between the parties; the case file is now closed. On 1 September 2015, BASEAK Partner Mark D. Skilling, head of BASEAK’s International Arbitration practice, gave a presentation in Ankara, Turkey to members of the Turkish Contractors Association. The subject of his presentation was the dispute resolution options of Turkish construction companies related to their Libyan construction projects, some of which suffered tremendous damage both during and after the outbreak of anti-Gaddafi hostilities in early 2011.
