Two deals that Balcıoğlu Selçuk Akman Keki Attorney Partnership (BASEAK) and Dentons jointly advised on received five awards at the 2019 Bonds & Loans Awards Turkey, which is the only ceremony recognising excellence in Turkey’s structured finance and capital markets.

A Koç Holding company, Entek Elektrik won the M&A/Acquisition Finance Deal of the Year, was the runner-up for Project Finance Deal of the Year and came third in Natural Resources Finance Deal of the Year in 2019 Bonds and Loans Awards Turkey, for obtaining  USD 106 million and TRY 662.5 million cash facilities and TRY 1,05 billion non-cash facility provided by a syndicate of Turkish and international commercial banks and EBRD, arranged to enable it to acquire the Menzelet and Kılavuzlu hydropower plants from the Privatisation Administration.

Tamsyn Mileham who is a Partner of Dentons Europe acted as English Counsel, while counsel Ceren Su and senior associate Arzu İnoğlu from BASEAK, advised Entek Elektrik on Turkish law aspects.

The operating rights of two hydropower plants were given to Entek Elektrik, the winning bidder of a competitive privatisation tender with 1 billion 276 million TL. Menzelet and Kılavuzlu HPPs have been operating since 1992 and 2012 respectively and have a total capacity of 178MW. The acquisition finance transaction was completed in March 2018.

Being one of the Turkey’s leading energy groups operates in MENASA region, Karadeniz Group collected the runner up prize in the Structured Loan Deal of the Year in 2019 and third prize in the Syndicated Loan Deal of the Year in 2019 Bonds and Loans Turkey Award, for its  USD 250 million syndicated  loan facility  for powership projects in İndonesia.

The financing was arranged by a group of international lenders including Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Standard Chartered Bank, ICBC Turkey and Credit Suisse.

The Awards ceremony took place at the Shangri-la Hotel Hotel in Istanbul on 21 February 2019 and Bonds and Loans Awards Turkey brought together the industry’s most high-profile figures fifth time this year in the country.
