BASEAK team, led by Partner Galip M. Selçuk, successfully assisted the leading French yeast manufacturer on the acquisition of Dosu Maya, a Turkish yeast manufacturer, from Yıldız Holding. The Turkish Competition Authority confirmed the acquisition on December 29, 2014.

The acquisition, in which we assisted the client expand its market share in Turkey considerably, also involved complex competition and antitrust advice in this heavily regulated sector.

Dosu Maya, located in Lüleburgaz, supplies fresh yeast for the local market and exports dry yeast to several countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and employs more than 200 people.

A global player in the production of bread-making yeast and yeast extracts, with a turnover of €1.5 billion in 2013, the independent French family-run group has a presence on all five continents and employs more than 7,200 employees in 70+ subsidiaries based in 40 countries.

With  brands including Ülker, McVities, Godiva, Turtles and Jacob’s, the Seller, Yıldız Holding, is the largest food and beverage group in Turkey, with 60 factories, 11 of which are in foreign countries. Yıldız Holding employs a workforce of 41,000 and produces a range of products including biscuits, chocolate, edible oil, dairy products, culinary products, baby food and packaging materials.
