Recently, two major capital markets events took place in Istanbul in the same week: the Turkish Capital Markets Summit and Bonds, Loans & Sukuk Turkey 2017 Conference.

BASEAK partners joined both of these very well attended events, where many interesting topics were discussed on a number of panels.

The Capital Markets Summit focused on various matters including “M&A vs. IPO”,  “London Listings vs. Istanbul  Listings” and “Regulatory Developments”.  Highlights of the Summit included:

• The Capital Markets Board (“CMB”) will amend  the 70%-30% allocations ratios in initial public offerings soon,
• The IPO of Borsa Istanbul is expected in the second half of 2018,
• Borsa Istanbul and CMB will continue to take necessary steps to increase investor appetite for capital markets products in Turkey,
• For 2018 both on M&A and IPO fronts, the expectations are positive, and
• New legislation on real estate certificates will be issued to make the product more attractive.

Bonds, Loans & Sukuk Turkey 2017 Conference covered the following topics:

• general outlook of the Turkish economy,
• how to have a successful capital markets strategy to support businesses, using capital markets products as part of the financing strategy,
• potential of AT1 issuances in the Turkish banking system,
• sukuk issuances in Turkey and growth potential,
• Turkish Sovereign Wealth Fund, and
• project bonds.
